24th August 2022 – A river water education awareness session was successfully taken place on the 24th August 2022 held at Cherok Tokun Nature Park (National forest) with the participation of 30 students and 5teachers from SMK Bakti. Water Watch Penang’s Executive Manager, Dr. Hong Chern Wern, oversaw the event with the help of WWP interns and facilitators including Ms. Ong Ke Shin, Mr. Hanson Yeoh, Ms. Adeline Chong, and Ms. Nur Aina Syahira.

MBSP RIVER EDUCATION PROGRAMME WITH BUKIT MERTAJAM HIGH SCHOOL – 20 AUGUST 2022, CHEROK TOKUN
20 August: Water Watch Penang (WWP), in collaboration with Majlis Bandaraya Seberang Perai (MBSP), has undertaken a river education programme with Bukit Mertajam High School students. A total of 28 secondary students, along with 2 teachers and 3 MBSP officers led by Puan Roslinda, took part in the programme.
Dr. Hong Chern Wern, the Executive Manager of WWP, led the event, which began with an introduction to the organization and a discussion of the global and local water crisis. Then, Dr. Hong educated the students on evaluating river water quality and strategies to preserve and save water, thus raising awareness among the younger generation in light of Penang’s excessive water use.
SOUTH ISLAND GARMENT SDN BHD CSR PROGRAM WITH WATER WATCH PENANG AT CHEROK TOKUN, PENANG – 6 August 2022
6 August 2022: Water Watch Penang has conducted a river education program in conjunction with South Island Garment Sdn Bhd’s CSR initiative. About twenty employees, together with their family members led by Mr. Lee Ming Yeaw, Admin/Facilities and HSE Manager, participated in the program.
Dr. Hong Chern Wern, began the session by introducing the staff to Water Watch Penang and followed by discussions about local water issues, including the recent water cuts in Penang caused by severe turbidity due to the Baling flood in Kedah. Participants were also informed of the significance of water conservation and water-saving practices, thereby raising their awareness. Then, Dr. Hong described the current state of rivers in Penang, which are largely polluted, and he expounded on how the application of physical, chemical, and biological approaches can assist in determining the contamination level of a particular river.
INTEL RIVER RANGER PROGRAMME (CSR PROGRAMME) WITH WATER WATCH PENANG – 14 JULY 2022, QUARRY PARK, PENANG
14 July 2022: In conjunction with Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme at INTEL, Water Watch Penang has successfully conducted the River Ranger programme with the participation of INTEL employees at Quarry Park, located in the Botanical Garden of Penang. This event was the second series of the entire programme, where the first was held the month before (28th of June).
A total of 37 participants from INTEL Penang joined the programme, and some of them travelled all the way from outstation for this programme.
Continue readingSALCON SMART WATER PROGRAMME FOR SMK (L) METHODIST SENTUL – 16 JULY 2022, TAMAN PERSEKUTUAN BUKIT KIARA, KUALA LUMPUR
16 July 2022: A total of 29 students and three teachers from SMK (L) Methodist Sentul were involved in the Salcon Smart Water Programme in collaboration with Water Watch Penang in Taman Persekutuan Bukit Kiara, Kuala Lumpur.
This was the second programme of the year under the Salcon partnership with Water Watch Penang for another participating school, targeting to educate students regarding the importance of water and the essential role of rivers as one of the water resources.
