SALCON SMART WATER PROGRAMME FOR SJKT APPAR, KL -23rd MARCH 2024, BUKIT KIARA FEDERAL PARK, KUALA LUMPUR

The Salcon Smart Water Programme (SSWP) took place successfully on March 23, 2024, in partnership between Salcon Engineering Berhad and Water Watch Penang, at Taman Persekutuan Bukit Kiara, KL.

Attendees included 21 students and 2 teachers from SJKT Appar, and representatives from Salcon Berhad: Ms. Chern Meng Gaik (Corporate General Manager), Mr. Chin Yaw Ying (Corporate Affairs & Sustainability Executive) and Ms. Fadwa Faieqah under Protégé Programme Malaysia.

Aligned with the theme of this year’s World Water Day, “Water for Peace,” SSWP aimed to highlight not only water accessibility but also the unifying influence of water in fostering harmony among communities and nations. The river activity was designed to educate students about rivers and water across various geographic scales, including global, regional, and local perspectives, with a special focus on Kuala Lumpur.

SMK ABDULLAH MUNSHI DIVES INTO THE YEAR’S PREMIER RIVER AND WATER EDUCATION PROGRAMME

On January 29, 2024, Water Watch Penang (WWP) commenced the year with the first river and water education program at the Penang Botanical Garden. SMK Abdullah Munshi, also part of the Negalitres for Schools program and the GREW Training of Trainers (TOT) River and Water Education program, participated in this educational initiative.

A group of 28 students and 2 teachers engaged in the program from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Led by Mr. Hanson Yeoh, this program received support from trained facilitators from Universiti Sains Malaysia, including Mr. Yee Jean Chai, Ms. Khairul Barieyah, and Ms. Divya. The river activity, comprising two sessions, guided participants on a hands-on journey.

RIVER AND WATER EDUCATION PROGRAMME FOR SMK TELUK KUMBAR IN COLLABORATION WITH THE HABITAT FOUNDATION

On 11th December 2023, Water Watch Penang (WWP) and The Habitat Foundation successfully conducted a river and water education program for SMK Teluk Kumbar at the Penang Botanical Garden.

As the final education program of the year 2023, the Habitat Foundation organized this educational initiative as part of its Field Excursion for Penang Hill Biosphere Reserve (PHBR) Gateways, with sponsorship from CIMB Islamic. Water Watch Penang (WWP) was invited to facilitate an interactive and practical river activity, imparting knowledge on global, regional, and local water crises, and emphasizing the crucial importance of rivers as a vital water resource.

A group comprising 25 students and 2 teachers from SMK Teluk Kumbar actively participated in the program, which ran from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The program was led by Mr. Hanson Yeoh, Program Officer of WWP, with assistance from the trained facilitator, Mr. Yee Jean Chai, and the intern from CGSS USM, Ms. Durgadewi Thurairaj. Additionally, The Habitat Foundation team members played integral roles in the facilitation of the program.

RIVER AND WATER EDUCATION TRAINING OF TRAINERS (TOT) PROGRAMME FOR GREEN EDUCATOR’S WORKGROUP (GREW) TEACHERS – NOVEMBER 4, 2023, PENANG BOTANICAL GARDEN

On November 4, 2023, a Training of Trainers (TOT) Programme on River and Water Education for teachers from the Green Educator’s Workgroup (GREW) was conducted at Penang Botanical Garden. A total of 9 teachers from various schools in Penang participated in this programme, which ran from 8:45 am to 12:45 pm.

GREW is one of the main partners and supporters of WWP in the ‘Negalitres for Schools Programme.’ The primary objective of this ToT programme was to train GREW teachers to become facilitators in their respective schools, creating a multiplying effect of educators who are trained and passionate about river and water education, ultimately benefiting the students in their respective schools.

SALCON SMART WATER PROGRAMME BY A TRAINED EDUCATOR FOR SCHOOLS IN SELANGOR – 14TH OCTOBER 2023, TAMAN PERSEKUTUAN BUKIT KIARA

Salcon Smart Water Programme (SSWP) was successfully organized Salcon in Taman Persekutuan Bukit Kiara, Selangor, on 14th of October 2023. The programme was participated by 70 students and trained by a total of 8 teachers, from 7 different schools, which were SMK Puteri Titiwangsa, SK Wangsa Maju Seksyen 1, SMK(P) Air Panas, SMK Batu Muda, SMK Datok Lokman, SMK Maxwell, and SMK Seri Ampang. The teachers were formerly trained in the Training of Trainers session held on the 15th July 2023.

This programme was aimed at generating ripple effects of skilled and enthusiastic educators in the field of river and water education by training teachers to serve as facilitators in their respective schools.
