The implementation of the Salcon Smart Water Programme, a CSR Collaborative Programme between Salcon Engineering Berhad and Water Watch Penang (WWP), was held at Taman Rimba Bukit Kerinchi on August 3, 2024. Typically hosted at Taman Persekutuan Bukit Kiara for the past 13 years since its inception, this year’s event was relocated due to renovations at the usual venue. The new location, Taman Rimba Bukit Kerinchi, offered a visually impressive setting. The programme welcomed 39 students and 4 teachers from SMK Bandar Baru Sungai Buloh, along with Salcon Berhad’s representative, Mr. Chin Yaw Ying and , the Corporate Affairs & Sustainability Executive and Aini Suhailah Binti Mukhtar, Corporate Affairs Protégé.
Pada 20 Jun 2024, Persatuan Pengamatan Air Pulau Pinang telah berjaya menganjurkan Program Pendidikan Sungai dan Air di Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Setar, Nibong Tebal. Program ini melibatkan 292 orang pelajar dari Darjah 1 hingga Darjah 6 serta dua orang guru, bermula dari pukul 10.30 pagi hingga 12.00 tengah hari. Dr. Hong Chern Wern, Pengurus Eksekutif persatuan bersama dengan dua pelajar latihan industri, Cik Nur Fatin Azahara dan Cik Nur Atiqah, serta bantuan daripada sukarelawan RASMA, Encik Shaughn telah menyampaikan ceramah yang menarik dan berfaedah. Sesi ini dimulakan oleh Dr. Hong dengan pengenalan umum tentang persatuan dan aktiviti-aktiviti yang telah dijalankan oleh Persatuan Pengamatan Air Pulau Pinang untuk menarik minat pelajar. Dr. Hong juga menekankan bahawa SK Sungai Setar juga merupakan salah satu daripada seratus sekolah yang terlibat “Program Negalitres untuk Sekolah”
Water Watch Penang is honored to have been invited to raise awareness about water conservation as part of Intel Malaysia Safety Week, participating as one of the exhibitors on May 7th and 9th, 2024, at the Bayan Lepas and Kulim plants respectively. Representing Water Watch Penang were Dr. Hong Chern Wern, the Executive Manager of WWP, along with interns from UMK, Ms. Atiqah and Ms. Fatin.
On March 15, 2024, Water Watch Penang (WWP) successfully carried out the ‘Negalitres for Schools’ River and Water Education Programme at SJKC Kheng Tean. Under the Negalitres for Schools Programme, in the year 2022 during its kickoff, SJKC Kheng Tean was the first ever school to be installed with the water saving technology. This marks their inaugural educational talk in school for the year 2024 and also the third year of their participation in this programme.. A total of 300 students and 6 teachers participated in the program, which ran from 8:10 a.m. to 9:10 a.m.
Led by Mr. Hanson Yeoh, the WWP Programme Officer, and with support from WWP intern Mr. Dane Lim Chiu Tong, the session commenced with an insightful overview of WWP’s mission and past endeavors.
8th January 2023: Water Watch Penang was invited to give a short talk by Penang Green Council under Kebun KitaR’s Green Education Program managed by Bayan Greentech Sdn Bhd. The Kebun KitaR, a community farm managed by Bayan Greentech Sdn Bhd, is organising a free green education program session per month from August 2022 until July 2023 at Penang Digital Library to educate the participants on urban farming. The Kebun KitaR’s training and workshop will be done according to three main themes, namely ‘Act At Home’, ‘The Future Is A Garden’, and ‘Learn From Nature’ to promote sustainability and encourage the public to lead a healthy life.
The education program started with the introduction of the topic of water conservation and soil health by Dr. Jen. In order to help the participants to raise their awareness about the importance of clean water and appreciate the current adequate supply of clean water in Penang, Dr. Hong then presented and discuss on the local, national, and global water issues and the related topic such as Baling flood in 2022 that caused the water disruption in Penang. Several challenges of water resources management in Penang had also been introduced such as high water consumption of Penangites, and cheap water tariff.
In the final section, Dr.Hong emphasised various water-saving methods that can be implemented by the public in their houses. Before ending the talk, Dr.Hong also taught the participants to calculate their daily water usage. The participants also share their water-saving practice experience in their daily life. There are also many Penangites feedback to Dr.Hong and share their shockingness about realizing Penang is a water-poor state in Malaysia.
