17 August 2022: Water Watch Penang (WWP) has held another water education programme titled “Negalitres for Schools” from 15 to 17 August 2022 in three primary schools, namely SJK(C) Poi Eng, SJK(C) Li Tek Cawangan, and SJK(C) Hu Yew Seah. Most of the students who took part were from Standard 4 to 6.
The Executive Manager of WWP, Dr. Hong Chern Wern, gave an opening address to the students, outlining the organization’s goals, its history of conducting core operations in conjunction with other societies, and the WWP’s latest competition and campaign.

‘NEGALITRES FOR SCHOOLS’ River and Water Education Programme at SJK(C) Yang Cheng, SJK(C) Han Chiang, and SMK(L) Methodist — 8-10 August
10 August 2022: Water Watch Penang (WWP) has visited three schools to deliver a water education session as a component of their “Negalitre for Schools” programme.
On the 8th and 9th of August, 2022, the water education talk took place at SJK(C) Yang Cheng and SJK(C) Han Chiang with the involvement of 40 students each, primarily from Standard 5 and 6. On August 10, sixty high school students from four co-curriculum clubs in SMK(L) Methodist participated in the talk.
SOUTH ISLAND GARMENT SDN BHD CSR PROGRAM WITH WATER WATCH PENANG AT CHEROK TOKUN, PENANG – 6 August 2022
6 August 2022: Water Watch Penang has conducted a river education program in conjunction with South Island Garment Sdn Bhd’s CSR initiative. About twenty employees, together with their family members led by Mr. Lee Ming Yeaw, Admin/Facilities and HSE Manager, participated in the program.
Dr. Hong Chern Wern, began the session by introducing the staff to Water Watch Penang and followed by discussions about local water issues, including the recent water cuts in Penang caused by severe turbidity due to the Baling flood in Kedah. Participants were also informed of the significance of water conservation and water-saving practices, thereby raising their awareness. Then, Dr. Hong described the current state of rivers in Penang, which are largely polluted, and he expounded on how the application of physical, chemical, and biological approaches can assist in determining the contamination level of a particular river.
‘NEGALITRES FOR SCHOOLS’ River and Water Education Programme at SJK(C) Kong Min Cawangan Kedua – 3 August 2022
3 August 2022: Water Watch Penang (WWP) has successfully organized the ‘Negalitres for Schools’ water education initiative in SJK(C) Kong Min Cawangan Kedua. More than 300 students and teachers in total participated in this water education talk of the programme.
Dr. Hong Chern Wern, the Executive Manager of Water Watch Penang, kicked off the water education discussion with an introduction, history and activities of WWP. Hanson Yeoh, the aquatic science intern, facilitated the rest of the topic, which included global and local water challenges as well as water conservation strategies.

2 August 2022: On and on, another water education talk under the program “Negalitres for Schools” by Water Watch Penang (WWP) was successfully conducted with the students from SJK(C) Chung Hwa Confucian A and B. A total of 72 students, the majority of whom are in Standard 4, as well as a good number of morning session teachers, participated.
Dr. Hong Chern Wern, commenced the session by presenting a brief history and background of WWP as a significant introduction to the water education discussion. Then, the WWP’s intern, Hanson Yeoh, trained and delivered the sessions on global water challenges and various water-saving techniques as well as daily water consumption calculations using water bills.
