RIVER AND WATER EDUCATION PROGRAMME FOR Prince of Wales Island International School (POWIIS) – 14th September 2023, Penang Botanical Gardens

On September 14, 2023, Water Watch Penang (WWP) successfully organized a river and water education program for Prince of Wales Island International School (POWIIS) at the Penang Botanic Gardens. The program took place from 9:30 am to 12:00 pm and featured an engaging and hands-on activity aimed at educating participants about the importance of rivers and methods to assess river health through physical, chemical, and biological methods.

A total of 50 multinational students from Year 7 to Year 9, along with 8 teachers, participated in the program. The program’s lead facilitator was WWP Executive Manager Dr. Hong Chern Wern, who was assisted by trained facilitators: Ms. Naaga Lechume, Ms. Divya Sree, Ms. Tan Ying Sing, Ms. Nurul Farhanah Binti Ahmad Fauzie, and Ms. Wan Nur Alya Nayli Binti Wan Muhd Mazli.

‘NEGALITRES FOR SCHOOLS’: RIVER AND WATER EDUCATION PROGRAMME AT SJK(T) Ladang Mayfield – 13 SEPTEMBER 2023

On 13 September 2023, Water Watch Penang (WWP) successfully conducted the ‘Negalitres for Schools’ River and Water Education Programme for students from SJKT Ladang Mayfield, Tasek Gelugor, Penang.

A total of 79 students, comprising of standard 1 until standard 6, along with 5 teachers, participated in the program from 10.30am to 12.30 pm.

‘NEGALITRES FOR SCHOOLS PROGRAMME’- RIVER AND WATER EDUCATION PROGRAM AT SMK CONVENT BUKIT MERTAJAM – 6TH SEPTEMBER 2023

6th SEPTEMBER 2023 – Water Watch Penang (WWP) successfully organised the ‘Negalitres for Schools’ River and Water Education Program for SMK CONVENT BUKIT MERTAJAM students in Bukit Mertajam, Penang. A total of more than 300 students from both Form 3 and Form 4, accompanied by the Principal and two teachers, participated in the program.

Madam Khaw delivered the opening speech with inspirational green remarks for the school’s embarkation in towards obtaining the Green Flag under the FEE Eco School’s Programme. Next, Dr. Hong kicked off the presentation by giving an introduction to WWP’s background, goals, and past initiatives. Subsequently, Dr. Hong led a session on water education, enlightening the students about worldwide water concerns, including topics like pollution, water scarcity, excessive water consumption, and the impact of climate change on water resources.

SALCON SMART WATER PROGRAMME FOR KUALA LUMPUR SPORTS SCHOOL, 9 SEPTEMBER 2023, TAMAN PERSEKUTUAN BUKIT KIARA, Selangor Darul Ehsan

The Salcon Smart Water Programme (SSWP), took place in partnership between Salcon Engineering Berhad and Water Watch Penang in Taman Persekutuan Bukit Kiara, Kuala Lumpur, with a participation of a total of 40 students (Form 1 until Form 5), and 4 teachers from Kuala Lumpur Sports School from 9.00am to 12.00pm. 

Also present were the representatives from Salcon Berhad, Ms. Nor Anita Alias (Corporate Affairs Executive) and Ms. Fadwa Faieqah under Protégé Programme Malaysia.

Water Education and Water Audit Programme at Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA), Penang – 7th September 2023

The Young Men’s Christian Association of Penang (YMCA) hosted Water Watch Penang for an evening of water education awareness programming on September 7th, 2023, from 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm. There were a total of 21 participants of varying age groups who joined the program, but the majority of them were senior citizens. The session has also seen participation from a sign language group to accommodate special needs participants during that evening.
