River and Water Education Programme at SJK(C) Chung Hwa Pusat, Butterworth, Penang – 23rd September 2023

On September 23, 2023, Water Watch Penang (WWP) partnered with SJK(C) Chung Hwa Pusat for a compelling River and Water Education Programme during the school’s lively Mid-Autumn Festival Weekend Market from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM. The programme attracted a diverse group of 28 participants, including children from kindergarten, primary and secondary students, working adults, and even some housewives who brought their children along.

The presentation commenced with Mr. Hanson Yeoh, WWP’s Programme Officer, providing an introduction to WWP’s historical background, vision, and its ultimate goal of fostering a water-saving society. Following this, Mr. Hanson Yeoh delved into a comprehensive discussion about the global, national, and local instances of water crises and their implications. During his presentation, he utilized the storybook “The Water Princess” to underscore the water crisis experienced by an African nation, emphasizing the importance of appreciating our access to clean drinking water every day. Notably, the kindergarten children in the audience were particularly captivated by this story.

‘NEGALITRES FOR SCHOOLS’: RIVER AND WATER EDUCATION PROGRAMME AT SJK (T) Bukit Mertajam – 26 SEPTEMBER 2023

The ‘NEGALITRES FOR SCHOOLS’ education talk, organized by Water Watch Penang (WWP), took place at SJK (T) Bukit Mertajam on September 26, 2023, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This event was attended by a total of 30 students from Standards 4 and 5, accompanied by 1 teacher, Ms. Poorani. 

Dr. Hong Chern Wern, the Executive Manager of WWP, initiated the session by providing a brief introduction to Water Watch Penang’s objectives, its previous initiatives, and ongoing activities.

Subsequently, the trained facilitators, Ms. Naaga Lechume and Ms. Divya Sree, both interns at WWP, conducted the session fully in Tamil language. They explained to the students regarding water-related concerns extending beyond Penang, covering global, national, and local water challenges. They also explored various innovative technologies and strategies for conserving water resources, along with explaining the process of evaluating river water quality.

River and Water Awareness Programme at Penang Buddhist Association Dharma Sunday School – 24 September 2023

24 September 2023 – Water Watch Penang (WWP) has successfully conducted a river and water awareness programme for Penang Buddhist Association Dharma Sunday School on the 24th of September 2023. The programme was held from 10.30 am to 12 am with a total of 70 students from primary and secondary students and 4 Sunday School teachers, participated in the programme.
Dr. Hong began the session by introducing WWP’s history, objectives, and previous activities. He also presented facts about water, such as global, national, and local water crises, water conservation strategies, and other related issues.

‘NEGALITRES FOR SCHOOLS’: RIVER AND WATER EDUCATION PROGRAMME AT SMJK PEREMPUAN CINA PULAU PINANG– 20th SEPTEMBER 2023

Water Watch Penang (WWP) has organized the ‘Negalitres for Schools’ River and Water Education Programme for students of SMJK Perempuan China Pulau Pinang on 20th September 2023. A total of 150 students, ranging from Form 1 to 3, along with the participation of one teacher, engaged in the programme from 2.00 p.m. to 3.30 p.m.

Mr. Hanson, WWP’s Programme Officer, opened the programme by outlining WWP’s goals and water-related activities. He emphasized the global water crisis and its impact on Malaysia, explaining the causes with compelling visuals to evoke empathy. Moreover, Mr. Hanson also addressed a local concern—the low water tariff in Penang and its potential for promoting wasteful water use.

STORYTELLING PROGRAMME PLUS ‘NEGALITRES FOR SCHOOLS’: RIVER AND WATER EDUCATION PROGRAMME AT SJKC KEOW KUANG– 20th SEPTEMBER 2023

On September 20, 2023, Water Watch Penang (WWP) conducted the ‘Negalitres for Schools’ River and Water Education Program alongside a Storytelling Program for students at SJKC Keow Kuang from 11.00AM to 12.30 PM. A total of 836 students, ranging from Standard 1 to Standard 6, participated, along with 46 teachers.

Dr. Ng Si Ling, an active member of Water Watch Penang and a senior lecturer in USM, led the educational session, aligning with the program’s objective to enhance water awareness among children. She began by introducing WWP and then delved into foundational knowledge about freshwater resources and the water cycle, emphasizing the scarcity of potable water.
