The Salcon Smart Water Programme (SSWP), took place in partnership between Salcon Engineering Berhad and Water Watch Penang in Taman Persekutuan Bukit Kiara, Kuala Lumpur, with a participation of a total of 40 students (Form 1 until Form 5), and 4teachers from Kuala Lumpur Sports School from 9.00am to 12.00pm.
Also present were the representatives from Salcon Berhad, Ms. Nor Anita Alias (Corporate Affairs Executive) and Ms. Fadwa Faieqah under Protégé Programme Malaysia.
The Young Men’s Christian Association of Penang (YMCA) hosted Water Watch Penang for an evening of water education awareness programming on September 7th, 2023, from 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm. There were a total of 21 participants of varying age groups who joined the program, but the majority of them were senior citizens. The session has also seen participation from a sign language group to accommodate special needs participants during that evening.
29th August 2023 – The Student Explore Aquatic Sciences (SEAS) Camp 2023 was successfully carried out in USM. Dr. Chee Su Yin took the lead in guiding the camp, receiving assistance from a team that included staff, postgraduate students, research assistants, and interns from the Centre for Global Sustainability Studies (CGSS), USM and Water Watch Penang. The camp welcomed a total of 38 primary school students, ranging in age from 12 to 17, accompanied by 2 teachers.
The ‘NEGALITRES FOR SCHOOLS’ educational talk, organized by the Water Watch Penang (WWP), took place at SJK (T) Ramakrishna on the 5th of September, 2023, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The programme was attended by a total of 46 students from Standard 4 to Standard 6, accompanied by a teacher.
The session commenced with Dr. Hong Chern Wern, the Executive Manager of WWP, delivering a short introduction about Water Watch Penang and its overarching objectives, and provided an overview of the program’s past activities.
Next, trained facilitators, Ms. Naaga Lechume and Ms. Divya Sree, who are also interns at at WWP, conducted the session in Tamil. They explored critical topics related to water, starting with discussions on global, national, and local water crises, emphasizing the urgent need for water conservation. They also explained various innovative technologies and methods aimed at preserving water resources and also about the process of evaluating river water quality.
On August 22, 2023, Water Watch Penang and Xylem SEA successfully collaborated on their second CSR program in Selangor, this time involving 60 Form 1 students from SM Sains Kuala Selangor. The program took place from 2:15 pm to 4:15 pm.
Mr. Mohamad Hapiz B Mohd Rosli, Country Head of Xylem Water Solutions Malaysia Sdn Bhd, delivered the opening remarks. As an alumnus of SM Sains Kuala Selangor, he also shared his educational and career journey, spanning from Malaysia to his decade-long experience in Japan, inspiring the students. The program then continued with an introduction to Xylem SEA and its core business by Ms. Alicia Rani Francis, Project Manager, followed by Ms. Mavinia Allagu, Engineer in Applications Engineering & Tender Support, South East Asia, and Xylem Malaysia Watermark Ambassador, who introduced Xylem Watermark and its CSR Program. Xylem Watermark’s motto, ‘Every Drop Counts’, aligns with Water Watch Penang’s motto.
