ESCAPE ROOMS 3.0: RIVER, WATER, AND ENVIRONMENTAL QUIZ – 25th NOVEMBER 2023, UOW MALAYSIA KDU PENANG UNIVERSITIY COLLEGE

The concluding event for Water Watch Penang in 2023, Escape Rooms 3.0: River, Water, and Environmental Quiz, has successfully taken place at UOW Malaysia KDU Penang University College, with the enthusiastic participation of 22 teams representing 14 schools across Penang.

The primary goal of this quiz was to incorporate environmental knowledge into the ‘e-sport’ format, providing a ‘fun learning’ platform for students to interact with the quizzes. Participants faced challenging questions covering local and international environmental and water issues, calculations on water consumption, and a diverse range of general knowledge related to environment and Sustainable Development Goals. These questions were presented in different captivating ‘escape rooms,’ creating an engaging environment for participants to respond.

RIVER AND WATER EDUCATION TRAINING OF TRAINERS (TOT) PROGRAMME FOR GREEN EDUCATOR’S WORKGROUP (GREW) TEACHERS – NOVEMBER 4, 2023, PENANG BOTANICAL GARDEN

On November 4, 2023, a Training of Trainers (TOT) Programme on River and Water Education for teachers from the Green Educator’s Workgroup (GREW) was conducted at Penang Botanical Garden. A total of 9 teachers from various schools in Penang participated in this programme, which ran from 8:45 am to 12:45 pm.

GREW is one of the main partners and supporters of WWP in the ‘Negalitres for Schools Programme.’ The primary objective of this ToT programme was to train GREW teachers to become facilitators in their respective schools, creating a multiplying effect of educators who are trained and passionate about river and water education, ultimately benefiting the students in their respective schools.

‘NEGALITRES FOR SCHOOLS’: RIVER AND WATER EDUCATION PROGRAMME AT SJKC KONG MIN PUSAT – 1st NOV 2023

Water Watch Penang (WWP) successfully executed the ‘Negalitres for Schools’ River and Water Education Programme at SJKC Kong Min Pusat on November 1st, 2023.The programme involved 33 Standard 6 students and 1 teacher, taking place from 12:50 pm to 1:20 pm.

Hanson Yeoh, the WWP Programme Officer, along with support from the Executive Manager, Dr. Hong Chern Wern, commenced the session by presenting the organization’s history, objectives, and previous projects. Subsequently, the students were introduced to the global water crisis, with a particular emphasis on the challenges faced by African nations in accessing clean water, using the storybook “The Water Princess” as a narrative tool.

PENANG WATER AUDIT COMPETITION 2023 – 28TH OCTOBER 2023

The Penang Water Audit Competition 2023 wrapped up successfully on the 28 October 2023, featuring an active participation of 30 students from six schools in Penang. The competition took place at SJKC Union, and was conducted in collaboration with PBAPP, Penang Green Council, Green Educator’s Workgroup (GREW), and Clean International.

Water Audit involves assessing the flow of water in a system to understand usage, enabling the reduction of losses and improvement in water conservation. Following the success of last year’s first water audit competition, Water Watch Penang organized the second edition in Penang. This competition serves to educate students on the significance of water conservation, empower them to conduct water audits, and foster active partnerships and participation within schools.

SALCON SMART WATER PROGRAMME BY A TRAINED EDUCATOR FOR SCHOOLS IN SELANGOR – 14TH OCTOBER 2023, TAMAN PERSEKUTUAN BUKIT KIARA

Salcon Smart Water Programme (SSWP) was successfully organized Salcon in Taman Persekutuan Bukit Kiara, Selangor, on 14th of October 2023. The programme was participated by 70 students and trained by a total of 8 teachers, from 7 different schools, which were SMK Puteri Titiwangsa, SK Wangsa Maju Seksyen 1, SMK(P) Air Panas, SMK Batu Muda, SMK Datok Lokman, SMK Maxwell, and SMK Seri Ampang. The teachers were formerly trained in the Training of Trainers session held on the 15th July 2023.

This programme was aimed at generating ripple effects of skilled and enthusiastic educators in the field of river and water education by training teachers to serve as facilitators in their respective schools.
