SALCON SMART WATER PROGRAMME FOR SJKT APPAR, KL -23rd MARCH 2024, BUKIT KIARA FEDERAL PARK, KUALA LUMPUR

The Salcon Smart Water Programme (SSWP) took place successfully on March 23, 2024, in partnership between Salcon Engineering Berhad and Water Watch Penang, at Taman Persekutuan Bukit Kiara, KL.

Attendees included 21 students and 2 teachers from SJKT Appar, and representatives from Salcon Berhad: Ms. Chern Meng Gaik (Corporate General Manager), Mr. Chin Yaw Ying (Corporate Affairs & Sustainability Executive) and Ms. Fadwa Faieqah under Protégé Programme Malaysia.

Aligned with the theme of this year’s World Water Day, “Water for Peace,” SSWP aimed to highlight not only water accessibility but also the unifying influence of water in fostering harmony among communities and nations. The river activity was designed to educate students about rivers and water across various geographic scales, including global, regional, and local perspectives, with a special focus on Kuala Lumpur.

Negalitres for Schools: River and Water Education Programme at SJKC Nung Min

On March 25th, 2024, Water Watch Penang (WWP) successfully executed the “Negalitres for Schools” River and Water Education Program at SJKC Nung Min. 63 students and 11 teachers participated in this program from 8:15 am to 9:45 am.

Mr. Hanson Yeoh, the Programme Officer of Water Watch Penang (WWP), along with assistance from WWP interns – Ms. Nur Atiqah Binti Roslan, Ms. Nur Fatin Azahara, and Mr. Dane Lim Chiu Tong – initiated the program by outlining the organization’s objectives, background, and achievements. Subsequently, students were introduced to the global water crisis, with a particular emphasis on the challenges faced by African nations in obtaining clean water, utilizing the narrative of the storybook “The Water Princess.” Mr. Hanson Yeoh vividly conveyed the story’s content, deepening the student’s impression of the preciousness of water resources. The discussion then shifted to local and national water challenges, with a specific focus on Penang. Addressing a local concern, Mr. Hanson highlighted Penang’s low water tariff and its potential to encourage wasteful practices.

 ‘NEGALITRES FOR SCHOOLS’ RIVER AND WATER EDUCATION SESSION HITS SJKC KHENG TEAN

On March 15, 2024, Water Watch Penang (WWP) successfully carried out the ‘Negalitres for Schools’ River and Water Education Programme at SJKC Kheng Tean. Under the Negalitres for Schools Programme, in the year 2022 during its kickoff, SJKC Kheng Tean was the first ever school to be installed with the water saving technology. This marks their inaugural educational talk in school for the year 2024 and also the third year of their participation in this programme.. A total of 300 students and 6 teachers participated in the program, which ran from 8:10 a.m. to 9:10 a.m.

Led by Mr. Hanson Yeoh, the WWP Programme Officer, and with support from WWP intern Mr. Dane Lim Chiu Tong, the session commenced with an insightful overview of WWP’s mission and past endeavors.

Water Watch Penang Makes a Splash in Eco Fest 2024 at UTAR Kampar

The Eco Fest 2024, organized by the Community Service Society of University Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) in Kampar, aimed to promote eco-friendly practices and sustainable living. Water Watch Penang (WWP), led by the Programme Officer, Mr. Hanson Yeoh and assisted by intern, Mr. Dane Lim, provided water conservation insights to Utarians and the public.

Held on February 27th and 28th, the objective of the event was to facilitate discussions and exchange on environmental conservation by various environmental organization. WWP’s focused on water-related education, starting with Mr. Hanson Yeoh giving an overview of WWP’s history and goals. He distributed information about ongoing activities such as River and Water Education Programme, emphasizing the importance of assessments using physical, chemical, and biological methods to gauge river water quality.  Additionally, he highlighted Negalitres for Schools, a program involving the installation of water-saving equipment and an education program to reduce water consumption, along with other CSR programmes.

SMK ABDULLAH MUNSHI DIVES INTO THE YEAR’S PREMIER RIVER AND WATER EDUCATION PROGRAMME

On January 29, 2024, Water Watch Penang (WWP) commenced the year with the first river and water education program at the Penang Botanical Garden. SMK Abdullah Munshi, also part of the Negalitres for Schools program and the GREW Training of Trainers (TOT) River and Water Education program, participated in this educational initiative.

A group of 28 students and 2 teachers engaged in the program from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Led by Mr. Hanson Yeoh, this program received support from trained facilitators from Universiti Sains Malaysia, including Mr. Yee Jean Chai, Ms. Khairul Barieyah, and Ms. Divya. The river activity, comprising two sessions, guided participants on a hands-on journey.
