The ‘NEGALITRES FOR SCHOOLS’ educational talk, organized by the Water Watch Penang (WWP), took place at SJK (T) Ramakrishna on the 5th of September, 2023, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The programme was attended by a total of 46 students from Standard 4 to Standard 6, accompanied by a teacher.
The session commenced with Dr. Hong Chern Wern, the Executive Manager of WWP, delivering a short introduction about Water Watch Penang and its overarching objectives, and provided an overview of the program’s past activities.
Next, trained facilitators, Ms. Naaga Lechume and Ms. Divya Sree, who are also interns at at WWP, conducted the session in Tamil. They explored critical topics related to water, starting with discussions on global, national, and local water crises, emphasizing the urgent need for water conservation. They also explained various innovative technologies and methods aimed at preserving water resources and also about the process of evaluating river water quality.
One of the educational highlights of the event was the students were guided on how to calculate their daily water consumption by examining their water bills. Individuals consuming 250 liters or more of water were identified as heavy water users and were encouraged to explore the adoption of water-saving measures in their homes.
At the end of the programme, the students were also shown PBAPP Water Saving Videos to instil water saving initiatives.
Quizzes were conducted in between the talks and the winners of the quiz received a WWP T-shirt each as a reward. Water Watch Penang would like to thank SJKT Ramakrishna for being able to conduct and complete this Negalitres for Schools Programme.
