15 June 2023 – Water Watch Penang (WWP) successfully organised the Aqua Save Awareness Education Programme for Penang Green Office Certification for two of Greatech Integration (M) Sdn Bhd factories at Bayan Lepas and Seberang Perai on 14th and 15th June 2023 respectively.
A total of 87 employees participated in the programme from 2.30pm to 4.30pm.
The Aqua Save Awareness Education Programme is a free talk organised by WWP in collaboration with Penang Green Council (PGC) and Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) for organisations who signed up for Penang Green Office certification. The programme which was launched in 2009 is an initiative of PBAPP in collaboration with the Penang State Government to award industries and organisations which are committed to water conservation activities.
Besides, the objective of the talk is to provide a better understanding for company staff and empower them on the need to be water savvy in their daily activities instead of just achieving the Penang Green Office Certification. The talk also aims to guide the staff towards achieving the certification based on Aqua Save evaluation criteria.
According to PBAPP, organisations who participate in the programme will be evaluated on the amount of water savings achieved; initiatives and efforts to conserve water, innovation and cost-effectiveness of technologies as well as the commitment to contribute to the sustainability of water conservation.
WWP Executive Manager Dr Hong Chern Wern commenced the talk by introducing WWP’s history, goals, and past activities. He also presented on the global, national and local water issues, and types of water-saving technologies. WWP gave out some slow-flow inserts for taps, ‘Washers’ by PBAPP to the employees after explaining the way to install them.
Furthermore, Dr Hong explained the water audit processes in which he highlighted the components of water audit as well as how to conduct water audit and reduce water consumption in workplaces, offices and homes. Moreover, the programme included a session where the staff learned how to calculate the water bill and read the water meter.
In-line with Aqua Save programme, the participants were presented with the PBAPP’s latest water saving video.
