MICROSOFT VOLUNTEERS SUPPORT WATER EDUCATION IN JOHOR SCHOOLS – 8 & 9 APRIL 2025

As part of the Rainwater Harvesting Project in Johor, Water Watch Penang (WWP) successfully conducted two water education sessions with the participation of Microsoft volunteers on 8 and 9 April 2025. The sessions were led by WWP’s Project Assistant, Ms. Nurainshafika (Ain), with support from Dr. Hong Chern Wern, Executive Manager of WWP, who facilitated the hands-on activities.

The participating schools were:

a) 8 April 2025 – SK Tasek Utara

More than 300 students and 10 teachers (Standard 4, 5, and 6)

b) 9 April 2025 – SMK Bandar Baru Uda

Over 200 students and 4 teachers (Form 3)

A total of three Microsoft volunteers served as facilitators. Mr. David Ravi and Mr. Syahzihan guided students through calculating their daily water consumption on the first day. On the second day, Mr. Hazalee Hassan, an alumnus of SMK Bandar Baru Uda, gave an engaging talk on water awareness and responsible consumption. He also addressed Malaysia’s water crisis, practical water-saving tips, and the benefits of rainwater harvesting systems.

These schools are now on track to become leaders in sustainable water management education, empowering students to become champions of water conservation by taking simple yet impactful actions.

This successful initiative is a collaboration between Water Watch Penang, Microsoft, Clean International, and Gravity Water, with the support of the Johor State Education Department.
