Water Watch Penang and Lam Research Forge Partnership for Water Conservation

Water Watch Penang signs the Letter of Understanding (LOU) with Lam Research as a monumental step towards improving water conservation practices. This Rainwater Harvesting Project, Projeck Air Hijau (Greenwater Project) is set to expand to 8 schools in Penang.

Water Watch Penang and Lam Research have signed a Letter of Understanding (LOU), marking a significant advancement in water conservation efforts across Penang. The partnership will expand the innovative “Projek Air Hijau” (Greenwater Project) to eight schools throughout the region.

The signing ceremony, held on March 19, 2025, featured insightful addresses from both Lam Research’s General Manager, Mr. Lee Eng Keat, and Water Watch Penang’s President, Professor Emeritus Dato’ Dr. Chan Ngai Weng. Both leaders expressed their shared commitment to enhancing water conservation practices in Penang.

A highlight of the event was the launch of Lam Research’s volunteer tower in their lobby, where employees have collectively pledged an impressive 5,000 volunteer hours dedicated to environmental initiatives. Attendees were then given a tour of the company’s on-site rainwater harvesting system, which serves as a model for sustainable water management. The collected rainwater is efficiently recirculated to nourish an adjacent okra garden, demonstrating the practical benefits of water conservation.

Water Watch Penang also hosted an engaging exhibition booth where Lam Research employees participated in educational quizzes and activities designed to increase awareness about Malaysia’s current water challenges.

Water Watch Penang extends profound gratitude to Lam Research for this visionary partnership and looks forward to both the successful implementation of this initiative and future collaborative endeavors that will further advance water conservation in the region.

Water Watch Penang extends its appreciation to all students and teachers for their enthusiastic participation, making this program a valuable learning experience. For further inquiries, please contact info.waterwatchpenang@gmail.com.
