On the 30th November 2024, the fourth round of Water Watch Penang’s annual Water and Environmental Quiz was held at Penang Math Platform. This quiz, sponsored by Perbadanan Bekalan Air Pulau Pinang (PBAPP) and MBSP carried out using the Genially platform, was started in 2021 with the intent of instilling environmental education through gamification. Students were required to solve a series of escape room-styled questions, with points being awarded to teams who could complete the quiz as quickly and accurately as possible. A total of 24 teams took part, comprising upper primary and lower secondary students from 17 schools.
Questions were set by Ms. Fatin Azahara, Ms. Nur Atiqah, Ms. Chan Yi Ying, Mr. Yee Jean Chai and Dr. Hong Chern Wern, with Dr. Hong Chern Wern acting as game master for the event and Ms. Chan Yi Ying serving as score keeper. Ms. Fatin Azahara and Mr. Yee Jean Chai were the lead facilitators for the quiz, assisted by the other volunteers and facilitators including Ms. Deby, Ms. Nurul Fatin, Ms. Khor Ci Shan, Ms. Puteri and Ms. Tew Yi Ling. Photographs were taken by Ms. Shin Ai, and prizes were given out by Mr. Arivananthen Odayar, the Assistant Manager of Environmental, Safety and Health at PBAPP. The souvenirs were provided by Majlis Bandaraya Seberang Perai (MBSP). The quiz comprised of Preliminary A and B where Top 7 teams from Primary School Category (10-12 years old) and Secondary School Category (13-15 years old) would advance to the finale.
