31 May 2022: ‘Negalitres for Schools’ was successfully held by Water Watch Penang at SK Perempuan Methodist, Pulau Pinang, where this educational programme was conducted face-to-face for primary school students.
The programme was attended by a total of more than 200 hundred students and 5 teachers where they have been revealed about water education by the facilitator, Dr Hong Chern Wern, from Water Watch Penang and assisted by Comm intern, Nursyazana.
This exposure to water education covers water problems that occur abroad and even in Malaysia, especially in Penang where Penang is one of the water poor states. The programme also revealed local water issues, river and water monitoring and evaluation, and ways to save water in Penang. If water use is not controlled, it may lead to higher consumption, future demands, and many more. This programme has increased their awareness of current water challenges.
Besides, Water Watch Penang has also provided free water-saving kits by PBA Pulau Pinang to students. This water-saving kit at once will also make the students save water not only at school but also at home. Moreover, the programme also conducts classroom activities for students where they have to bring their own water bills to calculate the level of water consumption for each household. The response to the water education programme from teachers and students is very positive when they want more programmes like this in the future.
This programme is brought to you by CLEAN International and Intel Corporation and coordinated by Water Watch Penang.
