30 May 2022: Water Watch Penang has conducted face-to-face educational programme for primary school students in Penang at SJK Kheng Tean.
The programme was attended by a total of more than fifty participants and three teachers, and the facilitator involved in giving a talk was Dr Hong Chern Wern, Executive Manager at Water Watch Penang. This programme was also assissted by Comm intern, Nursyazana.
The objective of the programme is intended to expose students to the importance of proper water consumption, followed by water issues that are happening around the world, including in Malaysia. The programme also revealed local water issues, river and water monitoring and evaluation, and ways to save water in Penang. If water use is not controlled, it may lead to higher consumption, future demands, and many more.
Besides, Water Watch Penang has also provided free water-saving kits by PBA Pulau Pinang to students. This water-saving kit at once will also make the students save water not only at school but also at home. Moreover, the programme also conducts classroom activities for students where they have to bring their own water bills to calculate the level of water consumption for each household. The students were also exposed to ways to save water. Exposure to students through this education programme will make them more aware of the ongoing water problems and will take action to save water.
This programme is brought to you by CLEAN International and Intel Corporation and coordinated by Water Watch Penang.
