23rd May 2022: After not able to hold a face-to-face programme with school students since the Covid-19 Movement Control Order (MCA), Water Watch Penang has finally able to conduct a face-to-face programme for primary school students at SK Bayan Baru, Penang.
The programme was attended by a total of 28 participants (Standard 5) and two teachers, and the facilitator involved in giving a talk that day was Dr Hong Chern Wern, from Water Watch Penang assisted by Project Assistant, Mr. Linges Navamney and Comms Intern, Ms. Nursyazana.
The objective of the programme was intended to expose students to the importance of proper water consumption, followed by water issues that are happening around the world, including in Malaysia. The programme also reveals local water issues, river and water monitoring and evaluation, and ways to save water in Penang. If water consumption is not controlled, it may lead to higher consumption, future demands, and many more.
Moreover, the programme also conducts classroom activities for students, such as calculating the water bill with the aim to enable the students to know their own daily water consumption. The response of this water education programme from teachers and students was very positive as they would like to join more programmes like this in the future with Water Watch Penang such as the river activity programme.
