World Water Day 2005

WORLD WATER DAY 27 MARCH 2005 � THEME �WATER FOR LIFE�
YOUTH PARK AMPHITHEATRE, PENANG

Water is the essence for life. Realising its importance to life and its close connection to almost every living and non-living thing on earth, the United Nations have designated March 22 every year as World Day For Water. This year, Water Watch Penang with support from PBA (PP) Sdn Bhd, Ford Foundation, Global Environment Centre and other organizations are celebrating World Day For Water on 27 March 2005 at the Youth park Amphitheatre, Penang.


This year�s World Water Day (WWD) 2005 has great significance as it is guided by the upcoming water decade's theme "Water for Life". 2005 marks the beginning of the International Decade for Action, "Water for Life" 2005 - 2015, proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly.


The activities and programme are as follows:

(1) Water Painting Competition (Starts at 8.00 am)

I Age 15 � 17 Years
2 Age 13 � 14 Years
3 Age 10 � 12 Years
4 Age 7 � 9 Years
�5 Age 6 & Below.
About 200 children took part.



Many were pre-registered, but for those who have not pre-registered, WWP still accepted their registration on the day itself. Participants had to bring along IC, Birth Certificate and painting/colouring materials.

(2) Water Guessing Competitions (All Day)


(3) Speech by Professor Dr Chan Ngai Weng, President of Water watch Penang (11.00am)


(4) Speech and Opening Ceremony by YAB Ketua Menteri Negeri Pulau Pinang, Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon (11.15am)


(5) Prize giving ceremony by YAB Ketua Menteri Negeri Pulau Pinang, Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon (11.30am)


(6) Water Exhibition by PBA, Water Industry Players, NGOs and others (All Day)


(7) Visit to Waterfall Treatment Plant (All Day)


(8) Water Quiz by DJ (All Day)

(9) Giving of Water Souvenirs by WWP and others
