PCC Visit to Waterfall Treatment Plant 16 June 2007
VISIT TO WATERFALL TREATMENT PLANT BY PENANG CHRISTIAN CENTRE
About 100 members of PCC (Father & Son Club) visited the PBA's Waterfall Treatment Plant, guided by WWP on 16 June 2007. The group was briefed by Prod Dr Chan Ngai Weng on the importance of rivers, forest and water, and the need to protect them. The group was also shown various ways to monitor the river's health, including physical observation, chemical measurement and biological assessment of water quality via aquatic fauna (macro-invetebrates). The biological assessment was conducted by Cik Mad, one of WWP's members under the guidance of Assoc Prof Dr Che Salmah Md Rawi, WWP's Secretary. Thereafter, the group was given lunch and drinks before embarking on a river clean-up using Malaysia's famous "Gotong-Royong". A competition was organised whereby father & son teamed up, one collecting rubbish along the river and the other recording the collected items. The top 3 pairs with the most number of items won prizes. At the end of the day, the group was very satisfied as they had learnt a great deal on a subject they hardly knew at all. Let's hope they got the message and start protecting our rivers, catchments and save water in their daily lives.
